ABOUT US

Welcome to RAD Learning Lab!

RAD stands for Relevant, Autonomous, and Dynamic, and that is how we endeavor to run our program. RAD Lab is also RADICAL! A radical change from typical school environments and social groups. We’re excited to offer a space that encourages positive communication and alternative learning styles. We offer Community Learning for small groups of children from pre-k through high school.

Our program encourages children to work together while allowing independent, non-competitive growth. This means each child can work at their own pace and at their own level in a small class-like setting with instructors (parents) who present topics, or as a group doing project work. Our program also encourages Socratic discussion as well as hands on learning opportunities.

Our program is secular and is based in Lexington Park, St. Mary’s County, Maryland. We are co-located with St. Inie’s Coffee shop.

We welcome…

  • children ages 3 to 18 years in our classroom programs – and all ages in the coffee shop of course
  • families who wish to create a peaceful and supportive group for their children
  • parents who are positive, caring, and patient
  • children who are happy to be involved and work with other kids, who love learning and being creative, and who have healthy social skills and a willingness to be open to new ideas

Families: Our group embraces equality and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, class, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or other aspects of what we look like or where we come from. All members should be treated with respect and dignity. All families are expected to celebrate and accept each child for who they are, and feel that they each have the potential to achieve great things regardless of age, gender, or ability. We encourage creative thinking and problem resolution, and joyful learning.

Secular: As a secular program, we welcome families from a variety of backgrounds. We embrace and encourage diversity especially in respect to philosophical differences. Our program is happy to accept families who are Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Atheist, Agnostic, or any other faith or lack thereof as it has no place within the program itself. We embrace science and technology, as well as environmental and social awareness.
